Description On any given day, up to 1,600 animals call Best Friends Animal Sanctuary a home-between-homes. Dogs, cats, bunnies, birds, horses, pigs and other barnyard animals come here from all over the country, each and every one seeking a safe haven where they can find refuge, love and acceptance. If you've never visited before, a grand tour is the best way to take in the beauty of the red rock canyon while also getting an overview of the different areas of the Sanctuary. Additionally, each of the animal areas has its own tour, so you have the option of taking a deeper dive into particular areas of interest. A guided hiking tour is also available. Ready to experience the magic of the Sanctuary? Let us be your guide!
This place is amazing. If I lived in Kanab, I would definitely have to become a volunteer. There are so many stops that leave you feeling peaceful. Angels Rest brought tears to my husband's eyes, and I just wanted to sit with my eyes closed and imagine that the chimes sounding off when a breeze blew through was the animal spirits letting me know they were happy and carefree.
What a delightful place. Friendly welcome, have details of the next tour available which we decided to take. It was the pigs and goats and Sergio was informative in an easy listening manner. Nice drive around the road , someone was setting up for a wedding at the amphitheatre , what an amazing setting for a wedding!! Stoped at the Village cafe and had a great tasting lunch, with friendly staff and great views from the outside seating area.
We stopped at Best Friends to give out teens an opportunity to volunteer and interact with animals. They got to pet one dog. ONE DOG! Best Friends is a great organization but their goal is solely to educate on their mission and to get people to adopt. If you are wanting to go pet and play with dogs, cats, pigs, horses, etc, this is not the place. They did offer a 90-minute tour but they told us it was more for education about the company and this particular establishment. Park up by the road and hike over to the Sand Caves. You’ll see more animals and wildlife on that trail than you will at Best Friends.
This was a nice surprise that we ran into while staying in the area. They will take you on a bus tour of their area, and you get to see (and possibly pet) goats, dogs and cats. Our kids really enjoyed getting to play with the animals.
This place is the mothership of the No-Kill Shelter movement. The Sanctuary has to be seen to be believed; words and even photos cannot convey the vibe, the overall serenity providing the context in which seemingly never ending activity occurs, caring for the animals, the staff and the volunteers. This was our fourth year driving out from FL and staying in the beautiful on-site RV park. Full hookups, level concrete pads, breathtaking views and you can hear yourself think. No cable and no on-air TV channels and the free WiFi doesn’t support streaming however most sites are perfect for Starlink. Rates are very reasonable and the water is delicious. We had an issue with our shore power cord this visit and Joe, the manager. Went above and beyond, after hours, to get us running until we could get to Las Vegas and buy replacement parts. He wouldn’t even let us buy him a cup of coffee, let alone lunch. And everyone is like that here: Deb at Dogtown, Mileen at Roxie’s Room, all the folks at Mercantile - everyone! We love this place (could you tell?)
Beautiful place, truly one of a kind, a park setting where you can walk, do a tour, adopt pets, have lunch, see pet memorials (beware it will pull at your heart) worth the stop. My favorite kitties were adopted here.
