There are designated parking areas on either side of the Nueces River adjacent to the dam. One is on Park road 25 almost to FM 395. The second spot (with a view of the dam from your vehicle) is on FM 365 off of FM 395. Use Google maps for help. I visited the trailhead from the park road entrance. The main central trail is wide and grassy with firmly packed surface. A wagon with kids or picnic supplies would do fine. No picnic tables or benches are available. The end of the trail is a fenced view of the spilloff. Returning down the path a coral snake tried to hide under the fresh mowed grass near my feet. Eek! According to a long time resident walking his dogs, coral snakes, Indigo snakes, and large brown water snakes are common on the trails at both locations. The second location (trail) is known for its extremely old oak trees and enormous knarly oak tree. After nearly stepping on the coral snake, I skipped the second trail for now.
