Description The Emporia Animal Shelter is solely ran by the Humane Society of the Flint Hills in contract with the City of Emporia. We are within the no kill shelter percentile and have been below 50 euthanasias annually for the last 7+ years. These are only due to court ordered/aggression or vet suggested/quality of life situations, as we do our best to find forever homes for all. Normal Hours will be 9-3 After 7/6/22 for Wed-Sun. We have a look book for our dogs, and currently do not let the public walk through our kennels. Please call ahead to make sure we are open & able to accommodate you. We are a no surrender shelter & ask that strays are posted on local lost & found FB pages prior to calling about vacancy. Help us, help them! #adoptdontshop

KEANU!!! 🥳🎉 I absolutely love both this shelter and the kitten I recently adopted :). They send you home with records and a food sample! While the cats are litterbox trained, Keanu did have a few accidents. With patience, he got used to the new environment very quickly and that was fixed! Keanu is so spoiled and loved.<3

I adopted a cat from Emporia Animal Shelter about 3 weeks ago named Sky. I have renamed her Scarlet after Scarlet Witch from Marvel! :) Let me just start with saying I really hit the cat jackpot with Scarlet! I love her with my whole heart and every fiber of my being and I just can’t even imagine my life now without her or even remember what it was like before I got her! She is the SWEETEST cat and gives the best cuddles. She means business when making her biscuits… always hot and ready :) haha. I would highly recommend adopting from this shelter the staff were so sweet and you could tell they all genuinely love these animals and want the best for them! Enjoy the picture of my little bb <3

8 years ago I got a puppy from them, that dog grew up into a good lady and they even communicated with me from across the country to find a puppy photo of her. Sadly they couldn't find it but the fact they spent a week trying was amazing, nothing but respect for what they do and how they remain a no kill shelter. Get your new bestie here, it's worth it!

We worked with the shelter to adopt our absolutely perfect dog, Cappuccino, and could not have had a better experience! Both the shelter staff and our dog's foster parents were extremely helpful, sent timely communication, and helped coordinate a smooth transition from her foster home to our home. Most importantly, it was clear the our dog had been very well loved and cared for throughout her time at shelter/in foster. We are so grateful for all of the work done by the shelter staff and the fosters they work with, and would highly recommend working with them to find your perfect companion, too!

The staff helped us do multiple meet and greets with our existing dog and a new dog we wanted to adopt. They took their time and helped the dogs get used to each other before bringing them home. Very nice and professional and I couldn't recommend them more!
