Description In 1948, in response to our Nation’s constant killing of stray and abandoned companion animals, Mrs. Anna C. Briggs founded The National Humane Education Society (NHES) as a private, nonprofit animal welfare organization with a central mission “to foster a sentiment of kindness to animals in children and adults…” This mission stemmed from Mrs. Briggs’ philosophical belief system that “Animals have intrinsic value in and of themselves and are deserving of our protection.” Now, more than seventy years after its founding, without financial assistance from local, state, or federal governments, NHES continues to grow and to decrease animal suffering through its humane education & advocacy and animal care programs.

We adopted a puppy through Briggs/National Humane Education Society this summer. (Possibly two!) They are kind, knowledgeable, and we can tell they love and care for their animals. It has to be a hard job and they do great things there. The facility is clean, the animals are well cared for and they were very helpful walking us through the process. They have great rates compared to other adoption fees as well. Highly recommend!

The woman near the fence yelled out the window that I was going to close to the fence and was incredible rude I was just looking at dogs through the fence not actually touching them but she still accused me of being too close to the fence and she was very unreasonable. I was absolutely appalled at how rude and unkind this woman was and I will not be returning period.

Amazing work by amazing people. Education on animals to the youth and the un educated individuals will behoove the community in more than one way. Definitely an underrated department of all our NHS offices Thank y’all !
