Description West Memphis Animal Shelter is a municipal shelter for the City of West Memphis. We help and rescue animal from West Memphis, AR city limits and bring them to the shelter where they stay for 6 days. If unclaimed, they are vetted and adopted out or go to one of our many rescue locations for a new home.

I cannot stand this animal shelter. Let me preface this by saying, DO NOT GO THROUGH THEIR FACEBOOK BECAUSE THEY DON’T KEEP TRACK OF THE APPLICATIONS. They logged in the cutest puppies on a Friday night. Posted about them and said if you want one to put an application in. I did just that. I was there that next Monday to see the little one. I was told to put in an application, I told them I did that through their Facebook page and they said awesome, we will call when we get everything sorted out. (The shelter itself is absolutely disgusting, those poor babies are subjected to so much feces and who knows what else.) After 4 weeks of me calling continuously to ask if we could take her home, we are met with “the director is out with a family emergency” (I understand that), “the director is out sick now” (I truly hope he feels better, that sucks) “We will get your application on his desk as soon as he comes back” (awesome!) until finally someone tells me I never put an application in to begin with. A total lie but whatever, I’ve been calling they know my name and have to know I’m serious about this dog if I’ve been calling for over a month. I put another application in on the website this time. I call again, but this time when the phone is answered I’m told that I wasn’t able to adopt because I didn’t have an application put in first. You waited for so long, over a month, to say anything about a discrepancy. I cannot stand this place. Do not waste your time. They have a plethora of animals but don’t want to get them adopted out. The adoption director Trent can kiss my a$$.

DO NOT TRY TO ADOPT A DOG HERE. We saw their post about the puppies that came in on the 10th, a Friday, put our application in the next day and drove up there first thing Monday morning (2 hour dive). Met the pups, workers seemed annoyed we were there, we figured it was just because it was early. Said the adoption director was out and he would be back the next day. Called back the next day, he was still out, day after that he was still out. Called back twice a week since then to check on the pups. They kept telling us there were a lot of applications for them and they still had to decide, until the end of last week when we called, said they never got our application and that they didn’t have any at all for that dog and to put in a new one and they would definitely get back to us this time. It’s been over three weeks now since we put our initial application in and went to the shelter. This morning we get a text saying that our application was great but the pup was already adopted to the first person that put their application in on the 16th!!! I saw on their Facebook page that it was a fan on their page. Everyone there was rude and didn’t seem like they wanted to adopt the dogs out at all and were offended that we trying to adopt her. They are very unprofessional and led us on for almost a month thinking we were going to get the pup. Terrible terrible service I will never try to adopt there again and I don’t recommend anyone else trying to.

It was a great experience. I'm a first time pet mom. So, I knew nothing!! Everyone was so helpful and happy for me. I truly appreciate what they do!

WMAS helped me find the perfect dog for our home! Friendly staff, they take such great care for every animal that comes in, you guys rock!

They are amazing. Friendly staff with hearts of gold. Every time I have called someone picks up the phone. They do everything that they can to get these animals good homes. It's a very tough job, but the world needs more people like these guys.

two times a representative came to my home investigating a claim about my dogs being chained up in the back yard, not once did the investigator go into the back yard to gain recorded evidence to investigate the claim. what is realy going on is what i would like to know, i have no phone and my mother refuses to let me call and remedy the issue.
