I brought in a stray cat with a hurt paw. They were so nice trying to get him the care he needed. They did everything they could for him. He is back on our property and is doing well so far. Now just need to find him a home.

My cat was showing signs of approaching death yesterday and the vet in the midst of my pain and in front of my daughter tried to get me to put her under right then and there for upward 400bucks. I declined and said I wanted to take her home so she can pass in comfort with her family around her. She passed overnight, this morning I called the animal shelter for assistance. They were beyond caring and so kind and only charged us 20bucks and now my old lady got to pass over in the comfort of her home and bed qhile surround by her fur and human family and our money went to a good cause. When I'm ready to adopt another cat we will do so here

The animals are on a first come, first serve basis. Even if you keep tabs on an animal, they can't hold out for you. That kinda sucks, but can't be helped. I've noticed an increase in staff & volunteer numbers the past 2 months. Most everyone who works there has been friendly or straight forward. I've never heard anyone being rude or unprofessional. The volunteer & staff do their best to get the place cleaned up in the morning. Atleast they clean every day. I heard they do deep cleaning on Sundays. The fees are reasonable, especially when you think about how much a vet charges just to spay/neuter. Only complaint is that the kennels are abit to small for some of the larger dogs. All in all, a pretty good place. Lots of cute dogs always coming through.

I have been looking for a dog for several months and stopped by La Paws again. I found Nala. It was late in the afternoon, toward closing, but Olivia brought her out for our meet & greet, and spent patient time discussing her. In the office I asked about any problems, and she went carefully through her medical and behavioral reports. Olivia and Stacy, another caregiver, were very friendly and answered all questions. I volunteered for CAPA several years ago when it was run by the Santa Barbara County and there were problems. Now, the kennels are upgraded and there's a fence and space between the kennels and visitors, which is less stressful for the dogs and safer for people. I like the improvements that have been made. All the staff people I've talked with the last several months are polite, answer my questions and pursue answers when they don't know, explain rules and the adoption process clearly, and truly are committed to the animals they care for. These animals deserve homes but meanwhile, the animals are well cared for. Big thumbs up from me.

Thought this was a County service Called left number on voice for a call back re a momma cat and 3 kitties under my house. I have been feeding them for a week. Called Thursday and rude man said they had no record of call. I explained situation and was told we had to go to shelter, pay $65 deposit and a $4 per day rental for a trap we would have to set our selves. My husband and I are in our 80's with limited movement. Impossible for us to do. I questioned the fees and got rude responses. Take or leave it attitude. We are needing to fumigate our house but can't until resolved. I presume my County taxes are funding this incompetent group.

The woman was completely rude and insensitive to the fact that we had to surrender our dog. Basically said they didn’t want him, but they “can’t say no” if we insist. They did their best to try and make us feel like worthless owners for letting go of our dog (who is an amazing dog and I hope someone comes to free him from this shelter quick, his name is Toby in case you feel heroic)
