Dr Doobar and the vet techs were amazing at Erie Canal in Spencerport. Very thorough, compassionate, informative, engaging and they really love their jobs. I called at 9 am on Saturday and was lucky to get an appt at 9:40. 12 hours after a Convena shot for Trudy’s upper respiratory, I could see her eyes open. She is finally acting like a kitten should curious about everything. I highly recommend. Thank you again for the great experience.
I have nothing but great things to say about Erie Canal Animal Hospital, I had to bring my elderly dog in as he went down hill very fast and unfortunately his time was up. I hadn’t been here before but that didn’t matter they understood my need and was able to get me in. They were very very caring and gave us our time with our boy before it was time. There was no rush and they were amazing. I received a card hand signed by them and that was just a very caring touch, if you want to feel understood and know that your animals will be taken care of come here.
The staff at Erie Canal Animal Hospital are amazing! We had to come in on a Sunday, unexpectedly, and they were so welcoming while solving our puppy’s problem flawlessly! Thank you to each and every one of you!
(Would give 0 stars if that was an option) On Friday we noticed some unusual behavior from our 6 year old male cat. We assumed he just ate something funny and would recover by the next day, but Saturday morning he seemed very unwell and we decided we needed to take him to the emergency vet. This was our first encounter with Erie Canal Animal Hospital (emergency), and I truly hope it was our last. I was brought into the room with a tech and she quickly explained what they assumed was wrong with our cat. She proceeded to take him back for an ultrasound and to collect vitals. The ultrasound did NOT confirm their suspicions and his vitals were fine. She then explained a few different panels of bloodwork that we could have done which could’ve helped with a diagnosis. There were two price ranges, one costing $400-700 and the other costing $700-1400. Minutes later the vet rushed into the room in a tizzy and squeezed my cat in the lower body a couple of times before quickly diagnosing him with a very serious life threatening medical issue and proceeded to tell me it would cost $3000 in emergency surgery to save him. They allowed me to call my husband on speakerphone to explain what was happening and then left the room to give me time to make a decision. The second time the vet and tech came into the room I asked if there were any other less expensive options with medications or if the issue would resolve on its own. They explained how the only options I had were to have the surgery done or to euthanize. Mind you, I entered the office just thinking my kitty had a belly ache and now I’m suddenly being forced to make decisions on whether or not to put him down. I questioned the vet as to how she knew he had this issue when the ultrasound didn’t show anything. She quickly said “oh that was just done by a tech. I can feel it with my hands”. I found it incredibly unprofessional that she discredited another employee in the office. If she can’t even take their word, why should I trust anything anyone here says? I explained to her that we don’t have $3000 to spend on the cat. I also said that he was our family cat, we have 3 small children and I asked if there was anything we could do to make him more comfortable and bring him home. She proceeded to say something about how my leaving would be against medical advice and then snarkily said “well we could give you a pill that you could shove down his throat, but he will just suffer and this would ultimately kill him”. She completely lacked empathy and was very aggressive, judgy and made me feel incredibly guilty for not jumping into a decision after having such shocking news sprung onto me. She then left again so I could make a decision. The final time I was grateful that only the tech came in and I was able to avoid speaking to the vet again. I asked for them to give my cat back so I could take him home. She made me sign a form stating that I understood his quality of life was at stake and that I was leaving against medical advice, further making me feel guilty for not being able to afford the *temporary* fix that the $3000 surgery would’ve provided. Thankfully I was able to speak with a vet tech from another office who gave us the gentle guidance we needed and we made the very difficult decision to put our cat down still not knowing with 100% certainty that his issues were life threatening. We chose to drive 30 minutes away rather than go back to Erie Canal Animal Hospital. All in all I found this to be a terrible experience and hope that no one EVER has the misfortune of interacting with Staceyann Doobar DVM. As stated, she completely lacks empathy and made an already difficult situation way worse. Anyone who finds themselves at the emergency vet on a Saturday morning, while 35 weeks pregnant is already having a hard enough day without someone making them feel guilty. Shame on you Staceyann, shame on you.
I unfortunately had to bring in my 12 year old cat to be put down last week after he was having a severe asthma flare up and was struggling to breathe. The staff was so kind and acted promptly when they saw how much he was suffering when we brought him in. They made it so clear they did not want to rush our goodbye, but he needed to be put out of his misery ASAP. We really appreciated how much they put him first and gave him so much love in his final moments. They even sent us a sympathy card signed by their entire staff. I can’t thank them enough!
They were very nice and Helpful my Dog needed stitches and they did it asap thank you to them 😊 😀
