Description Animal Control is responsible for enforcing city ordinances regarding animals including the leash law, vaccination and licensing requirements, and checking on neglected or abused animals. Animal Control Officers can issue citations for violations in these cases. They also pick up loose animals and injured animals with no identifiable owner. Leavenworth Animal Control also facilitates the adoption of unclaimed animals from the Animal Control Shelter. Leavenworth Animal Control strongly urges pet owners to spay or neuter their pets. Animal Control also promotes responsible pet ownership through education efforts and advocacy.

I recently adopted a little gray/tan kitten, who was named Sassy, from there. She is sweet and beautiful and a little sassy/funny. She has become buddies with our other pets. It's great to watch them play. Thank you for helping these forgotten little beings. Each time I visit the employees are very nice and it's evident they care for the animals. Thank you much!

I just adopted a 10 year old dog from the shelter. The staff was professional, helpful, and extremely courteous. The place was very clean, and the animals were well presented. I will definitely return when I am able to adopt more pets.

The individuals working for Leavenworth animal control are incompetent at best. They have no training in animal identification/care. They have absolutely no respect towards the citizens they work for. My dog was walking at my side as he's been trained to do and I was fined 130 dollars for "animal at large". We walked 30 feet from my front door to my car. When I pointed out that plenty of people let their pet walk from their house to their car the animal control employees said "that never happens". Seriously? Top it off, when he went to write me the ticket he had to ask me what kind of dog I had. Now a black lab is a black lab. And if you're an employee of an animal control department don't you think you should know the basics? Not these people. And the staff working the front desk needs to be replaced. You wonder why people don't respect these incompetent and disrespectful individuals, spend five minutes trying to get them to do their job.

My dog got loose and was picked up by animal control. She is microchipped so I was notified right away. Unforeseen circumstances have led me to pick her up almost 2 weeks later. I wouldn't say she was in poor health after picking her up but she wasn't great either. She is a pretty sensitive dog and react easily to certain foods. When I brought her up home & started her bath.. Had noticed all these cysts on her under belly, rashes and dark specks covering most of her hind legs. I would of thought with charging $10/day - they would pay more attention to the well-being of the animals. It's alright though.. The staffs were friendly and I had some of the charges reduced along with bringing home a new furry kitty for free! Puuurrr..

I adopted my cat from here in august of 2021 and he is awesome. He was healthy even coming from the shelter, and had been trapped from a stray colony on second st they said. He is amazing and I’m so glad they had my buddy there. I will definitely adopt more from here.

Please check out the FB/Leavenworth lost pets reviews. We called to pick up a lost sweet dog and Animal Control responded within the hour. Although we were able to locate the owner the Officer was incredibly professional and glad the owner was located. She even was willing to wait while my wife went to pick up dog food and was very polite and friendly. The person who answered was professional as well. At first my wife was leary on calling based on the reviews and asked others about their experiences. The majority have had good experiences. For those who rely on reviews like us since we are not pet owners do not let the negative responses detract you from calling.
