Adopted from another organization. They are pretty disorganized and do not have their priorities straight. We had turned in an application and scheduled a home visit. We realized we had to reschedule the home visit, and they were nice about it. A day before the reschedule we haven’t heard anything from them and reached out. They had forgotten about our application and then said we were denied bc they didn’t think we were a good match. Seemed really odd since we were on their books for the second step. We had looked forward all week to meeting and welcoming this new puppy into our home, however they seem to use a very subjective process and then do not contact you if they deem you “not worthy.” I feel bad for the dogs. The lady we were talking to said that they are lucky to have half the application turn into homes for the dogs. They make it seem like the applicants are not good ppl. In hindsight, it’s the organization that needs to get itself together.
Excellent organization and great people. We adopted our beautiful puppy at their adoption event at Petsmart. We could not have been happier with our experience. Thank you for all the hard work and dedication to the animals.
!!! WARNING!!! DO NOT DO ANY BUISNESS WITH THESE PEOPLE! My family has been trying to adopt a dog for the past two weeks. Every time we are given a different person to contact claiming he’s been moved or can’t be adopted due to the weather. At first we were told all vet records for the animals in the house were needed, which is understandable, & we had no issues with providing them. Then we got told there had to be a home visit & agreed to do one yet got called back saying the home visit didn’t matter & that we couldn’t adopt him because our 4 ACRE yard wasn’t good enough for him. We explained to them that he was going to be an inside dog (considering when we first looked into adopting him we were told he couldnt be an outside dog, even though that was never our intention.) He’s been sitting in a cage for the past two months, all we want is to provide him with a great home. So where is Nick really and why isn’t he adoptable all of the sudden?? Has he been adopted??? This seems to be the only way to get answers, since my private messages & phone calls continue to be ignored.
We are a MILITARY BASE FAMILY and moved to Pensacola FL a couple months ago we have a chihuahua already that we have received from a breeder. We decided that our little dog could use a friend we went to petsmart on adoption day and fell in love with this dog. We filled out the application and was told that we would get a call. We waited all day the next day to get a call to do a home visit we canceled plans and cleared our schedule that day. We recieved NO call! Next Saturday we went back to petsmart to see if their was any other dogs available. We see the dog we put in a application for sitting in the cage. When I confronted the lady about why didn’t we get a call she explained to us that we could not adopt ANY of the dogs now because we were military and the fact that we might move out of state. My spouse FIGHTS for this country and because of that we can’t adopt a dog! This organization is HORRIBLE! Instead of us filling out the application for the dog why couldn’t they just tell us that day that we couldn’t fill it out due to our active status. They are unpatriotic and VERY rude! I told the woman I rather have the dog than it sit in the cage all day!
It takes saints to do the work that these people do. JHS has been around for a few decades now, and I have helped countless animals in the Pensacola area. The adoption fees are reasonable, there's always a home check to make sure the animals are going to a good place, and JHS respects the individual needs of each and every animal and won't stop until they find their right home. I could not say enough good things about this rescue. 5 stars isn't anywhere close to enough.
My husband and I were going to PetsMart to adopt a dog we had seen on the Jr. Humane Society website. Once there, I spotted this beautiful small , white /tan tipped eared dog who stole my heart! She had been rescued from another county which was ready to "put-her-down" when the JHS arrived and saved her. This is what rescuing means and the JHS stands for; innocent animals given a second chance. "Sweet Pea " is really our second chance of living, loving unconditionally and bringing more joy than we ever expected.
