I adopted Bella here in September and I had the smoothest adoption process. At the time, I was living with a roommate who had a cat. the staff provided me with information, assurance, and suggested I bring my roommate in to meet the cat I’d adopt prior to. Initially I went in for another cat, however after hearing Bella’s story and meeting her it was evident this cat chose me, I was also looking for an adult cat as well and Bella is 5 which was perfect. She did have a “pet whisperer needed” addition to her adoption profile and only having dog experience prior and never having a cat, I felt so strongly about this cat I decided we’d learn, grow, and become comfortable with one another together. I have since moved across the Country with Bella and although it took some time for her to show her personality at first and get comfortable around me, shes absolutely thriving and the sweetest most loving food driven cat. If you have the opportunity to adopt, I highly suggest it because it truly is a blessing to provide an animal that will give you unconditional love a home. I’ve had an amazing experience here and the staff are wonderful and very informative. :)
We recently had a disappointing experience at this shelter. In June we visited and met a dog on 4 different occasions. We heard lots of different information about this dog from one of the officers (John) as well as the dog's handlers. We decided to foster to adopt but it didn't work out. We felt that the shelter staff should all be on the same page regarding the animal's past trauma, their triggers, any concerning behaviour, etc. and pass this along to potential adopters. Unfortunately, the dog we chose displayed some very scary behaviours that put us at risk and one of us was harmed. We understand the shelter may not have ALL the information about the animals, but we heard different things about the dog from different staff and it made us feel like they just really wanted the dog gone. We feel sad for the dog and upset it didn't work out. Our advice, if you're looking to adopt or foster from this shelter...ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS. It's important to know what type of animal you're bringing into your home, you deserve to know although your main focus will be saving the animal. We wished it had turned out better for us.
I would like to express my profound gratitude to the team at Mississauga Animal Services, particularly to the supervisor and staff member Samantha, for their professional and caring handling of my recent issue in the postal code L5M 0G9. My dog was unfortunately attacked by another dog, a distressing and worrying incident. Their response was quick and effective, showing great concern and understanding for the situation. I am immensely grateful for the support and comfort they provided to me and my dog under these difficult circumstances. I feel relieved and confident being under your care. Your prompt response and attention to every detail had a positive impact on my experience. I would like to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation for your efforts and exceptional service. This experience stands as a testament to the importance of your service to me and the local community and I am sure that such a level of service will be a source of pride for the management and the municipality. My utmost respect and appreciation to all of you.
Never trust this place, ever. Please. It has taken me years to be able to write this review. These people are responsible for the death of my cat. There are much better places you can go to adopt animals, where they actually care about the animals (Paws and Tails is a great organization) The people who work here and run this place are heartless and cruel, and don't actually care about animals. They are evil to the core. Also, they are a kill shelter (or at least they were 10 years ago)
My fiancé and I are so grateful to have had the opportunity to adopt this wonderful little kitten and welcome her into our family. Thank you to Mississauga Animals Services. We had a great experience with them and hope to adopt again in the future☺️
Recently adopted a cat from this location. The senior volunteer who helped me was a very cheery and helpful woman who just loved cats. The morning staff were fantastic and fun to chat with -- they gave me a little grab bag of goodies to take home with the cat (toys, food, info) and let me borrow a carrier for my big chonker, as she was too heavy for the cardboard case. There were so many lovely cats in the shelter. Two of which were very aggressive towards other kitties, but very nice cats when on their own. It made me think that a small curtain was needed for over the cat cages so that the aggressive kitties can roam in the room without being reactive to those in the cages. I wanted to take them all home! FYI to visitors. Even though shelter is open until 6pm, staff did not let me adopt or visit animals after 5:15pm as they "put them to bed". So if wanting a visit or adopt, go earlier in the day or be warned: you will be met by a grumpy staff member who will just want you to go away and to come back another day. Maybe that particular staff member was having a bad day? Regardless her attitude almost made us reconsider the adoption but I'm glad we did not. A simple shift in attitude is probably required if working a customer service desk. A positive greeting goes a long way even if you have to say no!
