Fascinating place and great mission. Being that close up to a bald eagle was awesome. The nature trail nearby was fun and beautiful. Overall we spent about an hour and a half there. We walked to it from the cruise terminal which was a relatively flat walk until the last bit as there’s a slight hill to get up the driveway to the center.
My husband and I visited the centre whilst on an Alaskan cruise. As a visitor from England, it was a memorable opportunity to see bald eagles and other raptors up close. The staff were very informative and all the birds appeared happy and well cared for. We also took a walk along the hiking trail to the river and saw salmon spawning upstream. The gift shop was reasonably priced too and I bought several of the quirky phrased magnets.
The Alaska Raptor Rehabilitation Center is a place where passion for wildlife conservation truly shines. The staff here are dedicated to nursing injured birds of prey back to health, and their enthusiasm is contagious. Seeing these majestic raptors up close, from bald eagles to owls, was awe-inspiring. Learning about their rehabilitation process and the impact of conservation efforts left a lasting impression. This is more than just a visit to see birds; it’s an opportunity to engage with the critical work being done to protect Alaska’s natural heritage. If you’re a wildlife lover, this stop is an absolute must!
Visited this very beautiful place on my tour while I was in Sitka. Seeing the Eagles were really cool also got to see some eagles in rehab. There’s also a trail that takes you to a really beautiful waterfall and I saw tons of salmon!
Loved it all. Our driver was wonderful. Wish I could remember his name. The hike through the forest with all the totem poles and the explanation of salmon was terrific. And seeing all the eagles!!! What a treat. Loved the bears. Would highly recommend!!
This is an excellent and very professional raptor rescue center. It was very obvious that the health and well-being of the birds was their primary concern. There are permanent residents that cannot be released back to the wild, and many others that are in varying stages of rehabilitation with the hope of returning them to the wild. The employees were very knowledgeable and professional. I would highly recommend a visit here if you are in Sitka.
