Honestly I was really hoping I wouldn't have to write this review. I never review anything so here it goes. I went to get a cat from Mending Hearts I wanted an orange cat. Went there. They were really pushing this one cat on me. I said yes because they said they had given him vaccine had him fixed all the good stuff. They have to be checked for upper respiratory to even be adopted out. Turns out. He was supposed to be 1. He is 8😅 he had ear mites. Upper respiratory infection bad. Could get to my other two cats. He has a heart murmur and there was stuff in between his paw pads not sure what that was, peeing blood. The list goes on. I will give them this. He definitely was a barn cat like they said. But every thing else they said was a lie. No I will not take my cat back. I love him and have the funds to help him. Still messed up though you can't lie like that. Never AGAIN will I come here to adopt.
I'm doing my community service here, and I absolutely have fallen in love with the animals. There's so many dogs and kitties waiting for their forever homes. The staff and volunteers are super nice. Most of the pets seem to have been through a lot of heartbreak and tend to range from very sensitive to very loving. I highly recommend coming here to seek your loving companion
Terry and I had adopted a wonderful dog Jake! Mending Hearts' people are so awesome and sweet! They went above and beyond to make sure we had the best outcome adopting our new addition! Jake is perfect and has adjusted easily at his forever home.
We found our new family member (kitten) at Mending Hearts! What we liked about the setup at Mending Hearts was that it was just like a home environment. That made the transition to home life much easier for our little guy. Facilities were very clean, especially considering the number of animals they care for. Other reviews have mentioned difficulties with communication. We had positive experiences with communication, so I’ll share how we went about it: -Found kitten we were interested in through Facebook -Contacted Mending Hearts via the number in the Facebook post -Left voicemail that included our names, phone number, kitten we were interested in, current pets we have at home, and our availability for the coming week. -Followed up via Facebook Messenger to introduce ourselves and let them know about the voicemail (that way, they could also view our profiles as a “background check,” if they wished) -Received phone call, worked out mutual time to meet, then visited and came home with a kitten (different than one we were originally interested in but was a better fit for our family). Hopefully this is helpful to anybody trying to figure out how to navigate the adoption process! Keep in mind that Mending Hearts relies on the hard work of many volunteers as well. In addition to taking calls, they’re busy cleaning areas where the pets have been, administering food and medication, playing with animals, loving on animals, creating content to share on Facebook/social platforms to get animals adopted, etc. I’ve heard of other volunteer-run facilities where the expected response time is 1-2 weeks… give them some grace. I’m not in any way associated with them besides adopting our kitten from there, but just trying to help other folks who may be frustrated by adoption processes. 🙂
Mending Hearts Animal Rescue provides a loving and caring environment for cats and dogs. They make sure to provide proper veterinarian care which includes shots and having them spayed or neutered. In the event that you adopt a pet from Mending Hearts Animal Rescue and find you can no longer take care of it, or it's not a good fit for you and/or family, you may simply bring the cat or dog back to the shelter. If you need to give up a pet, or have a stray dog or cat, I recommend giving them a call first to see if they have any openings available at their animal shelter. They appreciate and take donations including dry kibble and wet canned food for cats and dogs, cat treats, dog treats, cat litter, paper towels, cleaning products, cat and dog toys, cat and dog beds, and more. Volunteers & fostering a pet are a necessary part of loving and caring for the animals and help to provide a nurturing environment for the animals in the shelter. Consider giving them a call if you are interested in volunteering and/or fostering a cat and/or dog. If you are considering adopting and/or fostering, give them a call and schedule a visit.
Mending Hearts allowed us to adopt the sweetest little boy. He has brought a lot of joy to us. His name is Willie, formally known as Indiana!
