The people are great here. They helped me get my dog Ero's his best friend. He was losing his mind when I left the house. We got Loki from here. His foster mom took the best care of him. He's the perfect fit for our family.
Great place to adopt! Clean shelter, friendly staff! After losing my 14 year old best friend I was diagnosed with broken heart syndrome as a result of severe grief - I love deep and grieve deep so after several months it was time to open my heart again to another and found sweet Sadie May (shelter name Saedie) here. I drove 180 miles round trip to get her but the trip was so worth it! Thank you Polk County Humane Society for helping me find my sweet Sadie 😊
Had a stray cat surrendered to them. I healed her up & neutered her. Loved having her but other cats were too mean to her for thought it best to surrender her or let her loose elsewhere which I would have never done. Had to keep her locked up at night all the time to keep her safe. Was worried over finances with another pet and mom coming to live with me. Mom never came and my financial situation got better and a friend was going to adopt her. They wouldn’t let me adopt her back and said he couldn’t cause he surrendered her too when we live at different residents and just friends. I went to see her on and off and she was more lifeless each time. No more spirit left in her. She was so loving, cuddly, playful, followed me everywhere when I had her. I should have kept her. I just never thought they’d refuse me getting her back. They say she got adopted but to be honest I don’t believe the lady I talked to. I think she LIED. She was very rude. Said it shouldn’t matter if she was adopted or at PetSmart or not. IT DOES MATTER. She was happy with me. They didn’t want what was best for her even when my situation was better. I would never let them have another stray animal. It’s all about money to them.
The cleanest, kindest shelter I've ever been in. It's obvious that they care for their animals. Oopsie, Daisy, and Dollop (formerly Rikki, Tikki, and Tavi) are so happy to be safe and home. If you are considering adopting, I urge you to put PCHS at the top of your list.
This facility is amazing, and helped me find my new ride or die.
The ladies there are SO sweet! I hung out with this cutie pie (wes) and had a great experience all together. Definitely recommend going here if you want to adopt or just need puppy therapy! Also... They need donations! Please help if you can. They are doing everything they can to give these babies the best life, but rely solely on the kindness of people donating.
