Description Adoptions and Animal Intakes are by Appointment. The Michigan Animal Rescue League is one of southeast Michigan's most established animal shelters, serving the community since 1953. Our shelter has been located on the corner of Featherstone and MLK for over 65 years. We have deep roots in Pontiac, Oakland County and beyond. Our history and experience combined with our constant evaluation of trends in animal welfare and sheltering have made us a necessary presence and respected asset within the community we serve.

My experience was amazing at MARL. They care about their animals so much. I am a volunteer there and fell in love with my beautiful girl Luna. We quickly bonded and she was mine very shortly after. We have been on so many adventures and it’s only the first week we adopted her! MARL is full of amazing people and little furry friends and I am so happy that I found myself there and found my best friend there.

We had a very good experience adopting from MARL. We spoke to Taylor on several occasions and she kindly answered all our questions. We found the facility to be very nice and clean and the animals definitely appeared well cared for. We adopted a senior and they were up front and honest about the temperament of the dog and any medical concerns. I would not hesitate to adopt from MARL again.

The staff was great 😊 Rufus is the best dog. He fit right in to our family. He is so sweet. I fell in love as soon as I brought him home. Thank you so much for taking care of all the animals.

Everything about our experience with MARL was spectacular! It was wonderful to have a rescue take our experience into consideration during the adoption process. The facility was SPOTLESS and the staff were kind and committed to the care of their available pets. We would absolutely recommend MARL to others and gladly come back to adopt from them again.

the best animal shelter I have ever been to & the only I will go to. it is extremely spacious inside with many large rooms for kitties. it was so fun to meet and play with so many. during my visit, we met volunteers, got to walk all around, and ultimately make a decision on a kitten. this is a large shelter with dogs on the opposite side. i loved the little information about each dog & each one had plenty of room to play, sleep, and go outside. every part was super clean & what i noticed to be extremely considerate was the availability and convenience of sanitizer and tissues for those with allergies.

What a wonderful place MARL (Michigan Animal Rescue League) is and what a great dog Henna is. We have been looking for a dog after our two rescues passed away. Yesterday I stumbled on their website and submitted an adoption form for Henna. Later we got a call from MARL and set up an appointment. We drove 3 hours to their facility and the rest is history. Thank you to all of the wonderful people at MARL. If you are looking for a rescue dog give them a look.
