Description "Second Chance Pet Rescue is a life-saving Non-Profit Animal Shelter located in Grove Oklahoma"
I've submitted 2 different inquiries about one of the dogs up for adoption over the last few days and tried to call many times with absolutely no response. There is no voicemail message on the phone number listed for the website and no option to leave a message...it just disconnects after a few rings. Happy to update this review if anyone every gets back to me. In response to their response: your response has nothing to do with the issue and there isn't an answering machine associated with the number on your website. I never asked to place a hold on anything over the phone or expressed an interest in adopting a dog without meeting them first. I explicitly said I would like to come by in the message I had sent and wanted to verify that the dog was still available for adoption. It is reasonable to verify that the dog I'm interested in is still available before making a 2 hour trip. As it turns out, your website was out of date and the dog was not available and it took approximately a week to respond saying that. Your shelter is the reason people go to breeders. It may be run by volunteers but it is not run well. Having a working phone and responding to messages in a somewhat timely manner is the bare minimum for a working shelter. Thank you for helping me decide it is not worth it to deal with a poorly run shelter to adopt - I'll just buy. Given that your shelter is so badly organized it allowed the illegal euthanasia of 11 dogs recently, I don't think it's me that should be denied owning a dog - you all should just be shut down.
I decided to take my two kittens to this organization to be neutered. A friend had taken his dog here for a spay surgery, and his pet healed nicely at a very affordable price. My cats are not used to being around other animals and have never been in a stressful environment, so I was a bit nervous. However, I knew this place was a charity organization so I wasn't expecting luxury. I packed necessities for them, but was told they wouldn’t accept any of it. When I dropped off my cats, everything seemed fine. They were supposed to stay overnight, and I would pick them up the next day. Upon arrival, Cassie Owens handed me a packet and mentioned that due to a power outage at the vet’s office caused by a tornado, the procedure hadn’t taken place, and my cats had stayed at the organization overnight. I asked why they hadn’t called me if they couldn’t complete the procedure, as I would have come to get them. Cassie’s response was dismissive, claiming they didn’t want to call because they had dogs there and “didn’t want to be in that situation.” I was taken aback by her attitude, as there was no issue with the dogs when I dropped off my cats. She seemed to have little concern for my pets’ well-being. My cats are extremely important to me. They have the best of the best.I’ve invested well over a thousand dollars in each of them to ensure their comfort and health. Seeing them mistreated was heartbreaking. When I went to pick up my cats, they were visibly distressed, refusing to come out of their crates, trembling, and showing signs of severe anxiety. As I was leaving, I calmly asked Cassie to notify me in the future if such an issue arises so I could pick them up. She interrupted and started yelling, “This is a $20 effing service; if you don’t like it, go to a vet and pay their prices. We don’t owe you anything!” Then said you want your measly money back. I tried to explain that my intent was not to take back my money but to ensure my cats were cared for and to keep the money could go towards helping other animals. She continued yelling as I tried to speak, completely ignoring my efforts to explain. Then threatened to take my cats away from me. While I was there, I overheard Cassie discussing another lady’s experience with her dogs. The situation sounded similar, with the other customer expressing concerns about her pets’ well-being. This only confirmed to me that this was not an isolated incident, and that Cassie has treated others with the same level of disregard. After several minutes of being yelled and cussed at, I finally snapped and said, “It’s not hard to pick up a phone if you don’t want to care for them and would rather have me come get them.” Cassie then yelled, “You’re banned from the property!” and told me to leave. At that point, I told her she is a lazy sack of s*** that shouldn’t be working with animals if she has so little compassion, or can't even do a basic job to relieve workers of another animal to care for if they can't. On the drive home, my cats were panting heavily, clearly dehydrated and traumatized. They had even relieved themselves in their car, something they have never done after vet visits. I was heartbroken seeing them in such distress. I want to note that the other staff members seemed caring and compassionate. This review is specifically about Cassie Owens, who, in my opinion, does not deserve to work in animal care. She was rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. I understand that animal people usually aren't great people persons but ah clearly she isn't a animal or people person. Please, if you’re considering this organization to save money, think twice. It’s worth paying more at a reputable vet to avoid the stress, poor treatment, and degradation I experienced. My animals’ well-being and comfort are worth far more than saving a few dollars. I understand that I made a poor decision and should of never came here in the first place if I was concerned about there well being but I had picked up my friends dog after her spay and they were very nice and the dog was in a good condition.
Never been in a shelter so clean!! I am in different rescues all the time but in this one they truly work their butt's off!! I do lots of transports & help them anytime they ask even though they are quite a ways from me.(over 50 miles) They truly care.
Had my kitten spayed. The people their are really nice you drop of you animal around 1 and pick them up the next day at noon. Their pricing is great I paid 35 for spaying and rabies shot, which helped me out a lot since I'm on disability and we all know no one can live on that. During covid I heard some people complaining because their income was like 100k yearly and they couldn't get stimulus check I felt so bad for them I almost ask them if they wanted to trade, my 12k a year to their 100k a year. I would have being in heaven. Ok back to this yes their nice people and they love the animals they take care of you can just tell by their interactions they have with the animals
I want to thank the staff, I adopted Molly yesterday and she is so sweet and is loving her new home.
best service, good people. Very clean!! They truly are there for the animals
