We adopted a kitten from ARC in 2013. He was the most playful and energetic kitten we had ever seen and he definitely "chose" us! While we were getting to know him, we asked about some health concerns that he seemed to have-some hair loss, runny/red swollen eyes-and they assured us that their vet had reviewed him and he was completely healthy. We had two other cats at home so we wanted to make sure we weren't bringing in any illnesses. We adopted him that day and once we got him home, his eyes got more swollen and he could barely keep them open and had really bad diarrhea. We took him to our vet and found out he had ringworm, intestinal parasites, and conjunctivitis. I was really upset that he wasn't being treated for this or at least we weren't aware of it. They just passed it off as nothing. It took a long time to get him back to normal and our poor other cats caught the ringworm. When we called to inform them, we let them know we weren't looking for any compensation, we just wanted to tell them so they could be prepared in case other cats caught what he had, they got very defensive and angry and blew us off. I do not regret adopting him as he's been our little buddy for the past two years and would adopt from them again just because I feel the need to help the cats get better. Other than the issues with the health of the animals, I do wish the facility was a bit cleaner and some of the volunteers were friendlier.

Sorry it took to long to write this view I do not write many. We got 2 cats from this shelter at the beginning of the year last year. Renegade and Mini now called Rogue they are very different but very loving all the same. I read a lot of reviews on this shelter and I know some of them are not good. It is unfortunate that we live in a world that does not care when it comes to animals. However yes the place is not the best kept and is a little small for all they do. This being said it is the closest shelter in the area for me and the work they do is a blessing taking from night kill shelters can not be easy. At lease they try to help and do so only on the charity that the public provide and in this time is probably not a lot please remember this when you go in it must be hard of the staff because there are so many animal that need help. I would like to end this on a good note when we went into the shelter we were not planning on getting a pet that day. I had been under a lot of stress and blacking out my doctor recommended a pet as a form of relaxation. When we got there it was a little overwhelming but the people there was nice and helpful. After meet renegade how was 2 years old I feel in love and hubby said i should take him. We seen Mini 3 years old in a cage by herself very vocal at my husband. So the lady let her out and my husband asked about her it turns out she had a brother but he got adopted the day before. She was clearly lonely and was used to having her bother very sad to see. We took renegade that day home and to the vet the very next day he was fine and the lady at the shelter provided his medical info since he had been there. Although my husband started to feel bad about Mini so I called the shelter lady on a Sunday knowing they were closed and request if it would be ok to pick her up that day. She was very nice and even though it was a long drive for her came and got her for us. We now have them both it was a little scary at first wondering how they were going to get along with each other. Mini once we took her to the vets had some sort of cold the gave us medication for her and she is fine. Renegade has a heart murmur and we are having a test done this year for him $500 it will cost. The both now get on and are great cats no more black outs for me since I got them. I just want to say one more thing please remember you are adopting a animal and they may not be in perfect health. Sometime it's the reason people give up on them no your taking that on when you adopt. my babies are not perfect but they are mine and we will now continue to give them the best life we can give them. Thank you to all so I could not post pictures I for one am grateful that these 2 cats did not get put down.

I recently had to return a really awesome cat because he couldn't get along with my other pets. I didn't want him to be scared or my other animals to be scared. Nadine was so rude to me when I brought him back. She snatched him right out of my hands and snarled at me that I wouldn't get my money back. I didn't care about that, I didn't even ask for it back. They just want to get rid of the animals they have there no matter if they are a good fit or not. While I was adopting him I heard a girl that worked there telling a woman that she needed to take the dog she was adopting a soon as possible because for her it was one less mouth to feed and one less cage to clean. They don't care about the animals. They also have tons of sneezing and coughing cats. And, they have fiv positive cats in cages with other cats that "aren't affected". This place is a complete dump and reaks of ammonia. Avoid this place and that rude short chubby long brown haired girl with the black eyeliner and rude unpleasant Nadine.

I am giving them 3 stars because they are really trying to give animals the best chance to get with a family. I went there looking for a dog a few years ago. I found brothers that I decided to take home for a trial basis with a $50.00 deposit ( I really did not want 2 dogs but they really wanted them to be together) because I have other animals. They told me that the boys were 2 years old and that they were thrown out of a car (they were torn up with what looked to be road rash their fur was missing and pink skin was showing it was so sad) I tried to get the boys to the vet because I did not want to bring new dogs into my home without them first being looked at but I had to wait a few days to get them in. I was told that they had all their shots/no fleas/no worms/etc. I realized after a few days that the dogs were not a great fit in my home one was very aggressive with the other dogs so I went to take them back. When I got there they said they only had 1 cage and could not put both of them in so would I please bring one back home and they would keep the other in the empty cage. When I questioned why they could not be put together I was ONLY TOLD THEN that the one dog was very aggressive with his brother and almost bit his eye out. I brought the other one back home and kept the pending vet appointment. When we went to the vet I was told that he was not 2 years old like I was told but only 6 months. He had fleas as well as round worms and another form of worms he also had mites and Giardia(ARC did give me medicine for the fleas for all my dogs Capstar) but I did not want a puppy...I really did not want a dog who infected my other dogs with the viruses he brought into my house. I do adore the dog I kept. My reason for writing this is to let anyone know that ARC wants to get animals into homes. They may stretch the truth or not be completely honest but they are doing a basically good job with getting dogs into homes. Just before you do get an animal be a good owner and get that animal to a vet ASAP just to make sure there are no health issues that can infect other animals in your home. I do love the fact that they are trying to help put animals who need love into homes that may be the most important thing. Everything worked out in my case. I have a wonderful dog that I adore, that some idiot threw out of a car and who could have been killed or tortured or maimed if the original owner had kept them and I get to love him and show him not all humans are bad.
