We have been very pleased with the care of both four-legged and two-legged alike! Good communication. We live in Indiana and traveled to Defiance to get our Nala. We were very impressed with the way things were handled. Thank you to all the staff and the foster family!

Had a great experience visiting FDHS for a meet and greet with a kitten. Kendra, the office manager, was very friendly and helpful. She even brought us some tissues for our happy tears! The whole process of communication via email and phone calls was also very seamless. Very happy with the adoption experience and looking forward to coming back to pick up our kitten!

This Humane society is immoral and if they don't care about the community they service it's hard to belive they actually care about the animals. Just a few short weeks ago they were packed to capacity and would not allow a stray dog be picked up because they didn't have room. I worked with them and held the dog in my large fenced in area till the owner could be located. Fast forward to today my schnauzer dug under not one fence but two fences as I have another fence inside the other because I have a dog door. I have never been cited for my dog running. This was a first time and I have lived here for over 20 years and have had multiple dogs. Yet a first offense gets you cited and then when you pick up your dog your talked to nasty like your some deplorable human who doesn't deserve your dog. The attitudes were awful. All this after just weeks ago helping out. I don't recommend doing anything to help out Fort Defiance. The animals desrve better human beings taking care of them.

I adopted 2 dogs from this shelter. I originally was planning on only adopting 1 but because these 2 dogs were found together and had a bond and an animal lover I could not separate them. I also have an older dog that vets would call a senior dog, and my younger dog passed due to medial condition at a younger then normal age. My senior dog is very energetic for his age and showed signs of wanting to play with younger dogs, and for the intrest of him I was looking for a younger dog to adopt. I found a dog online through petfinder that sounded like a good addition to the family. The meet and greet I felt like was very unprofessional as we basically did it in the parking lot. In what was called "the side yard". Next to a busy road. With the 2 dogs I was adopting and my dog, not to mention while that was going on someone was mowing not too far away, and cars were coming and going in the parking lot!! The worst part of the entire experience was one of the dogs started to cough and have yellow mucus come up in the morning. I brought her to my local primary vet, and found out it was kennel cough. I know kennel cough is not normally deadly but subjected to not only my senior dog to this dissease but to family and friends dogs that we introduce her to, and we left a voice mail to the shelter about what happened and called the day later to collect more advanced medical records they told us "we heard". The office area was very small with people coming in going as I was trying to fill out paperwork and watch 2 new dogs and my dog. The conclusion the introduce should have been a one on one time in a fenced in safe area if something happened on a leash with no distractions that could cause a stressful situation worst. After all 3 dogs were introduce in a safe fenced In area if the lobby was so limited we should have stayed out there without having to worry about the coming and going over other staff/people. The worst worst part was "we heard" about the kennel cough. I do have a senior dog with an underlying condition, so not only did that put him at a higher risk but also shows neglect for other dogs in the shelter, not to mention the agreement of returning the dogs to this shelter I could not have integrity in sending these dogs back if things didnt work out knowing a contagious dissease is happened in your facility.

It's been awhile but, I got my Brody boy from FDHS. Taking him home on 03/17/2010 and losing him 10/29/2019. He was a wonderful best friend, running partner, and big brother to his adopted brother Sammy. Providing me with almost 10 years (not enough) of joy and memories. I remember FDHS being awesome with the adoption process and the lady who I delt with telling me how much she would miss him and his cuddly, sweet personality. Which showed me they don't just house them but, get to know them, and care for and about them. I wish I could somehow give more than 5⭐!!! Which would somehow convince everyone to get their pets from places like The Humane Society and provide financial support. Thank you FDHS for bringing Brody into my and my family's life❤️

Getting ahold of these people is literally impossible! No communication what so ever!!! They’ve ignored me for DAYS until I sent a email complaining about them not contacting me back. How do you expect to adopt dogs out when you NEVER answer the phone?
