Amazing experience, Melissa is truly dedicated to the wildlife center and provided a thoroughly informative visit for us. Proud to support such a worthy establishment. Can't wait until our return in 2026 to join as volunteers and learn from these knowledgeable and caring people to help animals in need.
What a wonderfully unique experience for our family! Our guides were so informative, answered questions, kid friendly, which made it feel like friends were showing us around. Each bird and enclosure had their own history, background, how different birds will saturate the rescue during different seasons and across different years. For our family of 8, the cost averaged $19/person for a private tour AND bird encounter. A private tour without, costs less and is also recommended. Overall highly recommended and needs to be a Top 10 experience in Astoria!
Our group did the Cormie Encounter tour. We saw lots of birds getting fed and treated for their injuries by the kindhearted staff. I highly recommend this place for anyone who loves animals. Both kids and grownups had a blast.
Great place, a little bit out in the woods. Happily took the adolescent Sandpiper we found along the beach and saved it from becoming someone else's breakfast or getting swept out with the incoming tide and undertow. They were familiar with where I rescued it and assured me they'd release the young bird back where I rescued it so hopefully it could rejoin it's flock upon being released. Had to wait until they opened at 9am to drop off, but that was an understandable rule. Would definitely recommend for any injured wildlife in the north oregon coast.
Called in this morning regarding a pelican with a broken wing on the beach at Tierra del Mar. Poor guy was able to walk and float in the surf, but is unable to fly, dragging his right wing. The representative I spoke with was empathetic and was going to try to find a volunteer to check out the situation. Hopefully someone is able to capture him for care and rehabilitation.
We chose this as an experience to celebrate our 8 year old son’s birthday & got a hotel in Astoria and made a trip just to come here! I went based off of the reviews of others so really wanted to share our experience. First, we love what they are doing for animals. Our kids are absolutely in love with birds and have big dreams to become animal rescuers so this was such a special thing that they were very excited about. Our guide, although very nice, didn’t interact with our kids much at all. It felt more like a mandatory guided tour that they would give to people who were about to start volunteering. We did get to see Cormie which was super cool, & the other two ambassadors were in their enclosures and we saw them too. Overall it was a very quick tour without much kid friendly activities or interactions. Next time I’ll try a more kid focused event from them because this felt more like something for older teens or adults.
