Description The Animal Protection League of SC is a 501(c)(3) charitable, non-profit, no-kill, humane organization, founded in 1982. Our goal has been to provide a safe haven for the community’s abused and abandoned dogs and cats, and place them in permanent loving homes. No pet in our facility is ever euthanized for being too old, or the wrong color, or not perfect, or because it has been here too long, or just to make room.

So grateful for APL, for bringing Esmerelda into our lives!! The process for adoption is simple, they are understaffed, so it may take some time for calls the be returned. But they are fantastic.

This is one of the best shelters. I wish they were in an area where they could attract more adoptions. The staff is wonderful and they really care about how they take care of the animals. I've driven two and a half hours to adopt from the shelter twice. I can't believe the amount of quality stuff they sent me home with. Everything you could possibly need including toys, very good quality leash, collar, harness, food, crate, and more.

They are full with animals needing a home. I decided to keep Doll myself. She needs me and I need her as well. She is doing great, she even trained herself to use the pee pad.

This place is an absolute dump. What do they do with all of the money they collect? It sure is not spent on facilities. I encourage people to support one of the reputable animal groups in Columbia.

I didn't visit the shelter but I didn't visit the website and reached out to management for information on surrounding an animal that we tried to rescue but we're unable to manage as well as needed. Although the shelter responded rapidly and their response was extremely kind and without judgment, they were not able to help. I was referring to at least one of their agency which I appreciate. In the end, I was very glad that things stalled because as it turns out I found a nearby relative with exactly the environment the dog needed.
