Description San Diego Humane Society is our region’s safety net for animals in need. We provide the animal services for 13 cities: Carlsbad, Del Mar, El Cajon, Encinitas, Escondido, La Mesa, Oceanside, Poway, San Diego, San Marcos, Santee, Solana Beach and Vista. A national leader in animal welfare, we care for more than 40,000 animals annually by providing shelter, veterinary care, behavior training and more. We also contract with jurisdictions to provide animal control, lost and found, licensing and humane law enforcement services. SDHS creates a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. We are a private nonprofit organization, unaffiliated with any other humane society or SPCA.

We visited the Oceanside Campus on February 7th after noticing that some Chihuahuas had recently come into their care. We were visiting from Vancouver but have had great success adopting dogs from the San Diego area & were ready for 1 more. All of the staff we met were friendly & helpful. We saw some dogs who had recently been brought in from a hoarder situation & then met with the adoption counsellor. She was very knowledgeable & helpful. We shared our past adoption experiences & that our family includes a 13 y/o dog. After discussing a couple of options we decided on 1 of the recent arrivals. Although she came from a hoarding environment, she has been so adaptable to a new way of life & learning to navigate stairs, walking on leash, & much more. Not long after leaving the Humane Society she was strutting down the sidewalk & hasn't looked back since. It's only been 5 days but we know she's a great addition to our family. Everyone she meets loves her & I know that the other dogs who arrived with her, will make great family pets too. I also saw lots of other dogs of all breeds & sizes. I highly recommend the San Diego Humane Society & in particular, the Oceanside Campus based on our experience there.

We were looking for a kitten and it was a very long wait to meet any of the animals. We sat over an hour and ended up not being able to see the kitten we wanted. They didn't seem to have many that were adoptable to families with kids or other pets. They said themselves that they are short-staffed. We went to a different facility and had much better luck. They had a lot of rabbits and guinea pigs so if that's what you're looking for, you may have a better experience.

Have been looking for a dog or two since our dog passed away. The Humane Society was filled with potential dig dag doggers. It would be nice to grab a couple of them right then and there but I used the excuse that my wife wasn't there. What do you do when you know I've got three other dogs that they would have to get along with? All I can say is check it out!!

Jorge, Juliana, Kristen, and most importantly Amenida who helped me with the entire process and allowed me to trust my baby in her arms allowed me to redeem him back in Jesus beautiful and mighty name 🥹 I am so grateful for these staff members who allowed this moment to be possible and I give all the glory to God. I was facing homelessness and these staff members met me with the upmost compassion and care. I am so grateful and thankful. May God bless them for the goodness they have shown to me in Jesus beautiful and mighty name, amen. P.S please give them a promotion.

Adopted a senior bull terrier from this wonderful shelter. Very efficient adoption process, very friendly & helpful staff/volunteers, they ensure each animal's medical needs are taken care of, adoption fees are next to nothing compared to how much they invest in each animals needs. And they provide additional support options for your newly adopted pet such as 1 free training session and 1 free vet visit (VCA vets). Very happy with my experience at the facility and with my new buddy❤

I am so appreciative of this dog park. There are 2 good sized parks available. They are separated as "less active" or "more active" for different levels of energy, but it's mostly to provide a safer environment for smaller dogs. I have been bringing my puppy here to allow her to socialize and comfortably work up to playing with bigger dogs. I don't always feel safe bringing my small dog to any park, so I am really happy they focus on making all sizes comfortable here.
