If I could give a 10+ stars, I would. We recently moved to the area from out of state, and our 4 year old yellow lab needed a rectal polyp removal. She was at risk for surgery because she has a heart murmur. Our vet in Goodyear recommended us to AMSC. First off the front desk staff (Moose and Danielle) and techs (Jen) were incredible from the start. When I called and asked questions prior to our appointment, they were so kind and helpful. First we saw Dr. Miller, the cardiologist, to get an echo for our dog to make sure that she would be safe under anesthesia (I didn’t even know this existed), but I am so glad we did. Dr. Miller went into great detail about her results and showed me the echo and exactly what he was looking for/what he saw. He was extremely thorough and kind. He also instructed us to change our dogs food/diet, which in 4 years nobody had educated us on, so we are extremely grateful for that alone. We discussed changing her food and getting repeat labs in 6 months to monitor her heart murmur, which I was grateful for. Our dog can be very timid and owner protective, but Dr. Miller said she did wonderful during her echo. He knew how go treat her kindly, and to go slow, and he understood what was best for her to get the best images of her heart. Next we had a surgical consult with Dr. Ko. I could not make it, so my husband brought her in. The night before the consultation, Dr. Ko called me personally to discuss our dogs history and (since she had this removal done once before) he wanted all of her records and was really trying to understand our pup as a whole picture. I was seriously so amazed and I respected this so much, that at 5:30 pm after his day at work he was still researching and doing what was best for our dog the next morning. I felt that our dog wasn’t just a number, she was being taken care of in the best way possible. After Dr. Ko had the consultation with my husband, he called me immediately and went over every option and what he felt the best approach was for our dog to remove the rectal polyp without leaving her incontinent. He also suggested we get a colonoscopy, since while she is already under anesthesia, we can make sure there were no polyps further up the digestive tract. At first, I was hesitant financially $$, but we wanted to do what was best for our dog, and Dr. Ko was so understanding and kind. He planned a whole team approach with the other doctor, Dr. Chappell, as well as himself, to do the colonoscopy and then removal all in one go. He coordinated the timing to be just perfect. The morning of drop off, I was a wreck and crying (nervous dog mom), and Dr. Ko hadn’t even met me yet, and walked right up to me in the lobby and gave me a huge hug and was so positive and encouraging about her procedure. After the colonoscopy was done, he called me right away (while she was still under anesthesia) with the findings and proceeded to tell me how he wanted to approach her polyp and to make sure that we were on the same page. After surgery was finished, he sent me photos and updates of our girl as she was recovering. Dr. Ko also discussed with us different financial options, which we will forever be grateful for. Dr. Ko truly truly is one of a kind. You don’t find doctors quite like him (in humans or dogs) and I was simply blown away by his bedside manner, knowledge, kindness, empathy, and more! I cannot say enough good things - I’d just shout it on the rooftops for days. If you are looking for a wonderful team to take care of your pet, look no further - AMSC is for you! My nervous dog mom heart felt right at home, this staff felt like family. Not that I want to come back anytime soon, but if I do — I’d be happy and confident to do so. Haven, my husband and I thank y’all so much!! 🐾
These people are outstanding, I had to bring my boy Timber in for an infection emergency yesterday and everyone from the front desk ladies, to the nurses, to the doctor were amazing and super nice. They treated my dog with top tier care and hes home healthy and happy. Highly recommend.
I can’t say enough good things about this place. My cat Fernando already sees Dr. Mathews for cardiology so when my home vet suggested he needed surgery for a urinary blockage, this place was a no brainer. Nando was immediately seen when we got there because of his urgent matter. We were greeted by Dr. Harris in a room where she kindly, and assertively told us what was going on with Nando. I immediately knew our guy was in good hands. She said “I’m very good at this.” And I trusted that. Dr. Mathews even came down and checked on us knowing how scared I was. His procedure thankfully went great, and I was updated immediately. I was also called that night, for an update on his status, and the next morning. They even allow visiting hours if your pet needs to stay multiple days. They were very transparent about pay, his care, and everything going on with him. He ended up needing surgery as well, the surgeon called right when he was done with an update. I’m so thankful for everyone there who saved my baby. If anything(plz no) ever happens to Nando or any of our other cats we will be going here even though it’s an hour drive.
The staff and Doctors were amazing, clean atmosphere and felt very comfortable. The whole situation with our dog was not good, but they made us feel great and how we were going to take the next steps 🐶
As an original client of Animal Medical and Surgical Center and Dr. Pullen from 2008, I cannot say enough about what a wonderful hospital AMSC is and the care they provide. My original dog, Peyton, was a patient of Dr. Pullen. And then my current dog, Bindi, was also a patient until we moved to Florida. I am also posting this to give a review for your Neurologist, Dr. Adams! When Dr. Adams was practicing in South Florida, Bindi ruptured discs in her spine and had IVDD surgery performed by Dr. Adams. Dr. Adams is an absolutely incredible Neurologist that provided care above and beyond any expectations. I cannot say enough amazing things about Dr. Adams and I remain thankful to this day for his expertise and skills. You are very fortunate to have Dr. Adams at AMSC. Please let Dr. Adams know that Bindi sends her love! Jill and Bindi
Dr. Derek Matthews is just a phenomenal vet cardiologist. He takes his time to explain everything, lets you ask as many questions as needed, and does not rush out of the room. The entire staff has always been super friendly and helpful when I have called and I'm so grateful to have his team helping with my Charlotte. Thank you so much for your kindness!
