Nice to see the remodel currentl(2024) for the women & children's side to a bunkbed dorm style downstairs(Finally) they can fit almost 3x the amount of women they can compared to when I stayed there couple months(09/2021-12/2021) until I got exited. Don't ask why, Idk why. Not the point. Point is the women's mission part is doing an upgrade should've been done years ago. Let's just say many many MANY things people that aren't from Humboldt get shocked when they find out things more than not counties in Cali, Majority of Humboldt County 'Help' (ambulances, sober living transitional housing, etc) is privately funded. Then again it is faith based so it's makes since a church probably has it under its wing. Since I'm not a religious person when I stayed there the directors would give use the choice to step out during services. If we would like to sit outside, so that was legit due to alot of places that are faith based they force their 'clients' to attend them, mandatory. Otherwise, you were living there much longer. It was sad due to the fact that some religions find sacrilegious to attend or even think about a diff. Religion. So honestly that's the only reason I could stay there because if it was forced upon me, that's just not cool. I'm just grateful they let me stay a few months when I needed.

I am impressed with the caring people who run the Mission. They are doing all they can to help the homeless and addicted. A family member has been living there off and on for years. This place has such a heart to help the homeless. We need a few more of these in the area.....God bless the people there.

Worst pricing ever. Tried charging me $5 for one blood donor shirt. I won’t be returning

I was a guest there recently and couldn't ask for a better situation to my problem that was fixed by them giving me phone juice and a warm meal in the evenings with clothing and showers daily for the less fortunate means a lot to me and the others even though they may not show it at times! Thanks

My son is disabled by mental illness. He often attends uplifting presentations and meals at the Rescue Mission. He is greatly moved by the speakers there and comforted by overnight stays during this long winter of wind, rain, and hail storms. The Rescue Mission staff has been protective and welcoming without criticism or judgement and has made him feel that he can rely on their kindness and support. My son’s mental illness has sometimes put a wedge between himself and our family. But, the Rescue Mission has built trust and strength within his mind, and we greatly appreciate their ever-present care. We are not religious people, but we admire that staff does not push religious doctrine yet builds character within. We appreciate the services provided by Behavioral Health and other agencies through the Rescue Mission. My son enjoys his contact with his old high school teacher who volunteers at the Mission. Hats off to all the volunteers and employees who spend many hours protecting and supporting our homeless and disabled people there. --Carol Green
