Description Lucas County Canine Care & Control handles stray and homeless dogs and enforces dog laws in Lucas County, which is in northwest Ohio, including the City of Toledo. We handle about 300 dogs monthly. We do not receive money from the County general fund. Our department is funded primarily through the purchase of dog licenses. Your dog license purchase not only helps to protect your dog, but also helps us care for homeless and stray dogs, protect the community from loose and dangerous dogs, and help reunite lost dogs and their owners.

One of the best assets Lucas County has to help in need dogs. Providing them with shelter and the possibility of adoption. I just started volunteering recently. It is by far the best thing I have done to lift my spirits in this evermore dysfunctional world we find ourselves in. If your heart needs a lift, I strongly recommend you volunteer helping animals that can not fend for themselves. The staff there truly have passion for what they do, and can use as much help as can be given. Maybe one will touch your heart and give you some unconditional love, only a rescue doggo can.

It has recently come to light that the conditions at LC4 are horrendous and unacceptable. Some of their staff needs to be investigated and fired IMMEDIATELY. Abusive dog handlers. Unkept environments for dogs. People not doing the BARE MINIMUM like taking these dogs out ONCE a day for a potty break but instead leaving them inside their small, dirty, feces and urine filled kennels for 24 hours a day. The veterinarian there has her own opinions about certain breeds of dogs and cuts their heads off after euthanizing them and takes pictures with them as some kind of “trophy.” This behavior not only signifies that these people need fired but charges need to be brought on them for seriously neglecting and abusing these dogs. I am sickened and disgusted. I hope something is done about these staff members ASAP.

My dog was killed in a vicious attack by a Pitbull while we were walking in our neighborhood. The dog had previously been declared a dangerous dog because this dog has attacked other people and other dogs numerous times ,but the owners did nothing. And LC4 has done nothing. Since my dog was killed we’ve been given nothing but the run around from LC4. They said they would go to a judge and get an order to have the owners surrender the dog. They have not done this and the dog continues to terrorize our neighborhood.

Our troop had a wonderful time here learning about dogs and helping out. The kids loved filling the konks with peanut butter. There are some great dogs that need homes. They are always looking for donations aswell.

If you had the stupidest people on earth work in one place it would be this one. If I’m calling to report animal neglect and they gaslight me saying I just may not have seen them… I haven’t seen anyone, in four days? Help yourself and don’t call this place - trash assistance with idiotic people don’t call if you care about any dogs wellbeing they won’t help at all

Abuses and Negligence on animals is a crime, do not donate or show support to this company. Absolutely disgusting what I have read about how they treat their animals that come in.
