Description "Saving lives, one paw at a time. Providing hope and homes for animals in need in Modesto, California."
Don't bother! They don't come pick up abandoned pets. Can't supply traps or fix and return ferrel and wild cats. Here's a picture of ferrel cat that hangs around my home. Not sure what attacked it. Nobody returns calls. They should just close this facility and save the state some money
We called up to make a donation. They explained that they don’t take any type of animal medications. That’s understandable. But they do accept toys, bedding, old & new towels and blankets. So we brought in our extra toys, blankets, and towels, which they happily excepted. Very pleasant atmosphere. We met the sweetest pitbull while we were there as well. If you have any extra blankets or towels, stop by they are doing good things there.
While some of the paid staff here are horrible & rude that do not even care to listen to what you're asking or saying, (personal experiences the times I was here) these dogs here NEED your help. We fostered Sirius for a month before having to go back for her spay apt where we officially adopted her. She was never shown on social media but I found her on their website one day & after communicating with the wonderful volunteers on the Stanislaus Shelter Friends IG for two weeks about Siri, I made the decision to drive the 6 hour trip to meet her. I was nervous because everything I'd seen & was told, she sounded like a bad case of being terrified of everything. She wouldn't easily go on leash, would pancake to the floor, wouldn't interact with anyone or other dogs. She was so thin & obviously wasn't eating due to shelter stress. BUT as soon as I saw her in her kennel, she came right up to me & licked my hand. I got her into a bonding room with the help an old woman who volunteers here where she slowly warmed up but was still very scared. I made the decision to take her that day. Second day with us & she was already thriving in our home! 3 weeks passed & she is the most amazing girl. Knows all her commands, excellent recall & loves her baby brother pup Asher. I'm just saying to never judge a shelter dog by how they are in there! Siri was the worst case I've seen when it comes to fear & she blossomed almost immediately once she knew she was safe. If you're not sure, you can always foster! These dogs deserve loving forever homes. I want to thank Kat & Erika though, both volunteers, for helping us & being so kind as well as compassionate with all these dogs. 🤍🐾
The process to adopt a dog here should not be so difficult and the staff could certainly assist more or be more receptive when someone is trying to adopt a pet. We had browsed their website and found a dog we liked. My wife was in contact with a volunteer there and we got some nice videos and pics. When we contacted the desk to try to arrange an adoption they were very unhelpful and told us the dog was set to be euthanized on Sat. We were coming from out of state and coming before the weekend would be difficult. We offered to pay to keep him for just 1 more day and they refused. We offered to donate to their facility but they refused. Ultimately they started ignoring our phone calls when all we were trying to do was adopt a dog. We arranged to come down Friday, the day before his euthanasia but they gave us no assurances that he would be there even though we were driving 6 hours. Ultimately we contacted a rescue that was able to “pull him and tag him” until we got there. Again, it should not be so difficult when someone is actively trying to adopt a dog. We see the weekly euthanasia list and it’s quite saddening. If you bring a dog here it is quite likely it will be put down. Please try to find another option. The only reason they get 2 stars is because the employee who ultimately brought our dog out was very nice and good with the boy. They also claim that they vax and neuter the dogs but ours was not neutered even though he had been there for a both.
If I were a part of management or leadership here, I would seriously consider restructuring the front staff or working on their customer service skills. I know difficult people exist but if I have not given you any reason to be aggressive, then immediately ripping into me and others for no apparent reason other than you're mad at the world, maybe reconsider your employment. The rudeness was obsurd. Very unwelcoming for a service that's providing potential family members. I watched a woman behind the counter snap at two young children because they walked up asking for change. They were met with "See my sign? I'm unavailable at this time!" Very aggressively. They were maybe 8 or 9 and wanting change to feed the pups snacks. The guy up front that wears the headset is overly aggressive and loud as well. Spoke to me like I'm an idiot and should automatically know their policy and procedures. Also, after my dog was spade there. They wanted to dang near force me to take some course. I have had dogs since I was 5 yrs old. I'm 38 now. Don't need a class. I was just there to pick up my dog from surgery, and they couldn't comprehend I wasn't adopting the dog that day.... not sure why it was so hard to understand, but honestly, the whole front staff needs some training or a beer to calm down. Back staff? Fantastic. No complaints. 2 stars only because the back staff was great. Otherwise, one star for a horrible experience every time I've been there.
I love it that they find homes for strays, abandoned, and all different situations. But walking thru looking for a dog for my family it is so depressing seeing all these animals in their cages. I want to save them all , but I can't. Come down and save a four legged friend and bring them into your family. You won't regret it. I didn't find the dog that was proper age to begin training as my service dog, Shelby my last service dog passed away 10 days ago after being there for me for ten and a half years as my best friend.
