Priced so far out of any average person's budget, let alone someone on disability. So if you're rich, then this is the place for you. *edit According to the response to my review from Joy's of Living, I should be grateful that an assistance dog from them costs more than I make in a year. Hmmm, somehow, I just don't feel better about it. Mystery. Taking off another star for a complete lack of empathy from staff.
Their professional training model and ADI standards incorporated with many years experience provides a level of team training beyond what I had imagined. Joy and her trainers welcomed us and even through the challenges of a pandemic provided training methods safely and effectively. Thank you for giving me a blessing of independence through teamwork with my SD.
I stopped by to discuss the possibility of training my 15 week old Australian Shepherd as a service dog. The lady I talked too was very helpful but was starting a class but took my number to have the evaluator give me a call. I will give higher rating if and when I get a call back in a reasonable time frame.
Joy and her staff are incredibly knowledgeable and dedicated to their craft. I'm currently participating in the owner trained dog program, and can say that the is no substitute for the experienced eye of someone like Joy. You simply can't gather from videos and books what she can convey in person by watching and teaching.
I just received my second assistance dog from JLAD. It would be impossible to describe how a properly trained service animal can change your life. My pup companion not only brings me physical freedoms that I had lost, but also gives me the strength and security to venture out into environments that I often can not do on my own. JLAD does the service animal industry proud. Each dog, after over 2 full years of comprehensive, multifaceted training must match and be paired with the proper person requiring specific skill sets. An extensive PAT test, strict animal care contracts and regular skill retesting sessions are required. Don’t be fooled by fake helper dog trainers or owners that buy jackets and bogus certificates off the internet and bring poorly behaved dogs in public places. An official service animal is invisible - not heard, smelled nor disruptive in public. They are focused, keyed into their partner closely sensing for subtle clues of seizures, anxiety or chemical or physical threats to the health of their owners. Please don’t distract these amazing animals from their focus by making sweet eyes, loving noises or trying to pet them. Sometimes a simple distraction can be dangerous to the owner and animal. Please do your part to keep real ADA trained service animal laws intact by understanding the difference between a true, certified service animal and a pet. Support JLAD and other certified training programs.
JLAD is a small non-profit organization that takes pride in their work. Joy is a natural when it comes to training dogs as well as teaching people in the Owner Trained program. JLAD also has an awesome therapy program where you get to train your own dog to participate in community service.
