Description Dog Star Rescue, based in Bloomfield, CT, is a non-profit, 100% volunteer based dog rescue that places stray, abandoned, shelter, and owner-surrender dogs of all breeds and ages into qualified, caring, lifelong homes. We work closely with shelters in the South as well as New England states to save the lives of loving and loyal dogs who have lost their way and often find themselves on death row. With adoption events every week and new dogs arriving weekly as well, we have saved more than 5,000 dogs’ lives - giving them the second chance they deserve. Please know that our thorough screening process is to ensure that adopted dogs will be properly cared for and a good fit for both the adopter and dogs’ needs.

What an incredible experience we had with Dog Star Rescue! My husband and I had been interested in getting a dog, and we discovered Dog Star Rescue through my brother. After checking their Instagram and website on a regular basis, we finally discovered our Cora (formerly Alma). The timing was right for us, so we submitted an application last Thursday night. By Friday, we received an email asking a couple of additional questions; our references were also contacted. On Saturday, we received our pre-approval to adopt Cora! We were lucky to meet her at an adoption event on Sunday where we got interviewed and played with her. Thankfully, we were the right fit for Cora, and she for us! Dog Star Rescue and its volunteers were top-notch; Rachel was especially amazing and helpful to us on adoption day! We are so excited to have Cora in our lives, and her adjustment to our home has been going very, very well, which is a testament to her foster family. I would highly recommend Dog Star Rescue for anyone in the CT/MA/NY area looking for a family pet! We had such a wonderful experience. Thank you again! ❤️
We adopted Remington " Remy" today. Starting the application process to the interview with Sarah this past week and our meet and greet today is a 5 star process. Today's meet and greet with family and our own dog was laid back, no rush, just letting the dogs do their own meeting. With all the 5 star procedures with Sarah we commence with bringing Remy to our forever home. Don't hesitate to get your adoption application started if your looking to add a dog to your family. So far the stars are a 10 Thank you to Sarah, Jennifer and all the volunteers who truly care about our future pets. Meghan
We can’t say enough about the wonderful experience we had with Dog Star Rescue. They were knowledgeable, compassionate, and truly cared about each dog within their care. Even as DS alum, we have felt just as supported as we did during the adoption process. Our sweet boy is the most perfect addition to our little family, and we can’t wait to make a lifetime full of memories with him. Thank you, Dog Star!
Recently adopted my little Ben from Dog Star. I love how amazing this rescue is! They care so much about the dogs, place them in good foster homes where they get loved (and probably pampered) and even get some basic training on things like crate training, potty training, etc. The coordinator was awesome and SO very helpful. Ben has fit right in and he loves my other dog - follows him around like, well, a little puppy! I would highly recommend them if you’re ready to find your new best friend!
We had a great experience with Dog Star Rescue. Their adoption process is thorough but reasonably quick: we had a phone interview, met our future puppy, and signed the adoption papers all within two weeks of submitting our application. And unlike some rescues bringing dogs from the south, Dog Star doesn’t ask you to make a commitment to adopt until you’ve met the potential adoptee in person. The only thing we didn’t like was that there was no option to defer his neutering until after the adoption.
Last year, we adopted a little pup Layla who was saved from a high kill shelter in Mississippi by one of Dog Star's partners. She has become our Collie's BFF after our German Shepard passed away. The people at Dog Star are loving volunteers who give tirelessly to help these dogs find forever homes. I definitely recommend adopting from them.
