Description The Stone House Animal Hospital was established by the original founders, Dr. Darrell Carder and his wife Gail, on December 6, 2002. Initially, Stone House operated as a 24 hour veterinary hospital focused on providing your pet with the tailored care they deserve, no matter what time it was and without extra fees. As our hospital continued to establish itself in the Topeka, KS, area, their healthcare model shifted to a “walk-in” only practice. By focusing on convenience for patients and clients alike, our new model helped expand our client base drastically. And as our hospital’s client base grew, our in-house team also expanded to bring aboard the incredibly trained and highly-qualified Dr. Albright.

We've always used Stonehouse for our emergencies. I really appreciate them accepting us as walk ins. Two weeks ago, we came to Stonehouse to put down our dying dog, Harley. My husband and I were both crying. The staff treated us with empathy and respect. I truly appreciated the private room, and not feeling rushed to say goodbye. I want to give a special shout out to Shannon for her kindness. She took care of us and Harley that day. And she has taken care of my dogs during past visits as well. I am so thankful we have this vet here in Topeka, and I will continue to come back.

I'm from Ohio and my 5 month old yorkie (Dude) needed rabies shot before I could get his hair cut, and this place took walk-in and friendly, polite and very cheap Aldo went back before my trip home 2 days ago and got him a motion sickness pill. Which worked great 16 hour drive we made finally home safe with no dog mess thank you so much staff . Below is dude at the stone house getting rabies shot and his hair not cut then the others us his hair cut and him happy in car on the road 😍🙏🤜🤛🫶🫶🐕‍🦺🐩🐶🐶🐶🏥🎉🥇🥇

These people were amazing to us when we had to take our dog in, in an emergency situation. The were so calm, polite, helpful, knowledgeable and that's not even the doctor. She was extremely patient, careful and extremely helpful. They even offered to let the dog stay the night after she was having a hard time waking up from the sedative. They made us feel very comfortable, let us come to where they were so we could be with the dog. Personally, that has been the best vet clinic I've seen in years! I believe she now has a new clinic to go to for all her care.

About 4 weeks ago on a Friday, my 14 year old dog suddenly couldn't walk normal. She was stumbling and walking in circles, had a head tilt, eyes were going side to side with rapid movement, panting- all signs of a stroke, from what I read. I took her to stonheouse animal hospital where she had to be gurneyed in (she's very big). *the staff I met so far was very kind and helpful* Once we were in the room, she laid on a towel and was panting for the entire visit. She couldn't stand up, she could hardly adjust her positioning on the floor. DR. Albright came in, asked me her symptoms, checked her gums, and diagnosed her with vestibular disease. Basically, old dogs get it, it makes them feel like they have severe vertigo, issues with equilibrium....she said she should have a good recovery, we should see improvement within the next 3 days. She said strokes were actually pretty rare in animals, and verbatim, "this is nothing to euthanize over." They gave her some meds in office and for me to give her at home, which would help with any nausea and dizziness. My husband and the assistant carried her out to the car, and that was that. I was too upset at the moment to catch it, but thinking back, I found it very odd that she never checked her temperature, her HR, listened to her breathing....nothing. No vitals were taken. In fact, she wasn't even wearing stethoscopes to do so. Well, she didn't get better, she got drastically worse over the next 2 days. Saturday came, and she seemed about the same, but I kept hanging onto the vets DX and trusted that she would improve. She was drinking water, but not eating, and still not getting up. I put puppy pads under her because she was urinating where she was lying. By Sunday she seemed even worse. More lethargic. I was really starting to worry. I wanted to give her 3 full days, maybe she would improve the next day, if not, I was going to call about having them see her again...she stopped drinking water by the evening. She couldn't even hold her head up, and then she started having labored breathing. She wasn't panting with her mouth open, instead, it seemed her mouth was locked shut, but her tongue was sticking out the side of her mouth and turning purple. This is when I hit the panic button. We were having tornado warnings that night, the weather was unsafe to drive in at that moment and we live 30 minutes away from topeka. So my husband and I sat there with her and sobbed, knowing she was not going to make it through the night. She was dying, right in front of us. It was to the point I was considering asking my husband to put her out of her misery. The tornado warnings were lifted around 1130pm, we carried her to the car, I drove her to the emergency vet, not knowing if she was even going to make it there. She did. They said it was either pneumonia, heart failure, or lung cancer. Nothing they could do. I said goodbye to my best friend of 14 years. So, I emailed stonehouse and told them what happened. No response. I called and left a message with the front desk to have their practice manager call me back. About 2 weeks went by until I got a voicemail from them. I call back, of course, she's not there. It took 3.5 weeks to finally speak to the manager of that office. She emailed me the notes of the visit and read them to me over the phone. Dr. Albright lied and said she did check HR and respiratory, even made up a number and put her pulse in the notes, said it was all fine and she was "alert and responsive" even though she couldn't even stand. The manager spoke with the Dr., she buckled down and will not admit she messed up, still lying about checking vitals. I'm not blaming them that my dog had to go, if it was her time, then fine. I'm pissed because she suffered in my living room for 3 days, when it probably could've been avoided had the vet ACTUALLY checked her vitals. I would've just made the call on Friday. So, that's my experience. I also saw where the owner of this office has had their license suspended several times for being shitty. Wish I would've known before bringing my dog in.

We brought our elderly dog in after suffering what we thought was a stroke. I will say that the gentlemen who helped me bring her back to the car (she couldn't walk) was extremely friendly. We were assured that strokes were very rare, and that it was Vestibular Disease- that she should recover in a few days. They didn't do anything but a visual exam. It was not vestibular disease, and she didn't recover. Two days later, she vomited, and within an hour was semi-concious, tounge purple, cold, and flopped out the side of her mouth, breathing a laborious death rattle, one eye affixed to the floor and the other glazed over and staring at the ceiling. She was gone, but her body was still alive. That is the last memory I got to have with her, holding her on my living room floor, listening to her slowly dying, before putting her into my car and watching the taillights dissapear. I don't even think she knew I was there. That memory is burned into my head, right alongside the worst days I had in Afghanistan, and I will carry it to my grave. Thankfully my wife was able to bring her to a vet that was open late, where she was told that it was lung cancer, pneumonia, or heart failure. Things that had the staff taken an extra 3 minutes, probably would have found clues to. Things that if we had been told, we would have ended it then, where I would have been able to say goodbye to her when she still knew who I was, not close to death on my living room floor. She died just after midnight on Monday. We get it. She was an old dog. There was nothing that stone house could have done to save her, and that isn't why my spouse and I are so angry. But the three issues that this vet told us, combined with the condition she was in when seen by stone mountain, has us firmly believing that had the vet on staff done more than just a visual once over, this wouldn't have happened to her. I don't want a refund. I don't want an apology. I want the staff members who are responsible for this egrigous, erroneous diagnosis to know that this sweet dog spent her last days suffering because they didn't do an extra few minutes of due diligence, and that our family now has to grapple with the guilt of witnessing her suffer to that extent. I just thank God my children slept through it and didn't have to see their dog like that. Shame on you for putting us into this position.
