I came to House of Ruth Pomona in desperation. They’re not able to provide any immediate services. After becoming homeless due to my abusive husband, I tried again to go to House of Ruth, but in Ontario. Although the staff is friendly, they should be HONEST with clients about their ability to provide assistance. Don’t come here after leaving your abuser, because they will lead you on and on for months about getting you on their housing list, providing counseling, legal advocacy , etc. I waited months. The weekly calls from the intake counselors should not be allowed to encourage clients that though they aren’t currently receiving services, that any day now, we would be contacted to receive services. I never received housing for myself and young child. Getting a weekly call from them only made me more and more anxious about getting any assistance. It has brought me a state of Depression. I had to stop answering their calls, because each time, I was just begging them for any sort of help, of which they simply cannot provide, and never followed up on. So for other Women who are considering House of Ruth, do not bother. They can offer emptiness.
